The ASUS Republic of Gamers Phone 3 is touted as the world’s most powerful gaming smartphone. Launching in Australia by the end of August, it might be time to start considering an upgrade. The ROG Phone 3 experience opens with a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with fast touchscreen response time which could give gamers that needed edge over the competition. There’s also HDR10+ high-dynamic range support for enhanced visual realism.

The rear-facing camera is powered by Sony tech, coming in at 64 megapixels with a 125-degree ultrawide-angle lens, while the front camera offers up 24 megapixels.

Looking at performance, ASUS ROG Phone 3 is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus mobile platform with 5G, WiFi 6 and an internal cooling system so high-performance gaming won’t cause the phone to overheat. Potential buyers can opt for up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB internal storage.

The new X Mode optimisation software allows customisation of different system parameters to suit any gaming or using scenario. Ultimately, you should expect ultra-smooth HDR gaming experiences with sustained performance for longer sessions.

The new gaming phone features a powerful 6000 mAh battery, although ASUS hasn’t specified how many hours of use this will offer. For comparison, the new Samsung Galaxy S20 has a 5000 mAh battery, so this one should last longer for gaming, especially with X Mode in use.

The unique side-mounted USB-C charging port lets users keep their battery topped up without cramping their style while gaming. There’s also a kickstand on the back for a better hands-free viewing experience, and ROG 3 is one of the very few phones released in 2020 that retains the 3.5mm headphone jack. Maybe the only other phone being the Motorola Edge Plus. ROG 3 weighs just 240 grams.

Those who are serious about their online gaming will also appreciate access to social community features built-in to the Armoury Crate app, and the growing collection of gaming accessories which includes the ROG Kunai 3 Gamepad as seen above.

ASUS ROG Phone 3 will be available in Australia for purchase by the end of August via selected retailers. Prices start at $AUD1,699.
